Review of Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schulz

Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schulz

Hook's Revenge

Twelve-year-old Jocelyn dreams of becoming every bit as daring as her infamous father, Captain James Hook. She’s sure that soon he will come and take her on a grand adventure. But her adventure takes a series of twists as Jocelyn is sent to boarding school, inherits a quest, and charges off to Neverland.

…if you will quit squirming about and be patient you will see that most things in life, wishes included, do not have immediate results.

Hook’s Revenge follows Jocelyn, a feisty young girl who craves adventure and is instead sent to boarding school. While it takes a bit longer than I expected for the Neverland part to come into the picture, Hook’s Revenge is an action-packed tale with a narration reminiscent of old fairytales, interrupted regularly with deliciously sarcastic asides from the storyteller.

It pains me to admit this, but Roger was a
good sight less stupid than most children.

Hook’s Revenge is reminiscent of the stories I loved to read when I was a kid. You know, the ones about orphans, houses with secrets, and mysterious magical lands. Plus there are cameos from Neverland favorites, such as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, sure to please fans without relying too heavily on them to propel Jocelyn’s tale. Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on Book #2!
