5 Bad Bookworm Confessions

Book bloggers are supposed to be the ultimate book people, right? With our customized library totes and flawless bookstagram photos, there’s a lot to live up to. So it’s hard to admit when I fall short of those great expectations.

Bad Bookworm Confessions

Here are a few bad bookworm confessions. I hope they’re not too scandalous! Better yet, I hope you can relate.

I don’t own cute bookmarks. I use scrap paper, old To Do lists, business cards, unused facial tissue. The kinds of things normal people probably throw away. I do love to collect stuff, so maybe I’ll remedy this down the line.

If it weren’t for reading challenges, I would probably only read 2-3 books a month. I’m not too speedy and I only like to read in the afternoon while the light’s good. The incentive of finishing a challenge makes it easier to put aside work and make time for reading.

Spoilers don’t ruin the story for me. I won’t go out of my way to read them, but they don’t usually ruin my enjoyment either. I enjoy stories as they’re happening, so often I’ll forget the spoiler until I’m in the middle of it. This habit does have a way of making me forget clues in a mystery, though…

I don’t usually have a strong picture of the characters in books. Paragraphs of description don’t help. I’m so sorry. Maybe this is one reason why I really enjoy graphic novels and illustrated books. I get a more immersive reading experience when there are accompanying pictures.

When it comes to reading, I don’t like to be organized. I pick books based on my mood, read more than one at a time, and take forever (well over a year) to complete a series of any length. Applying structure to my reading makes it too much like a task, so I simply go with the flow and enjoy without guilt.
