That Granny Torrelli. Me, I always want to do things for Bailey because he can’t see, things I think are too hard for him, like cracking the eggs. But Granny Torrelli is showing me that Bailey doesn’t need so much help, that I should quit being such a take-charge Rosie.
Jack doesn’t want to write poetry. Poetry is for girls. Poetry doesn’t make any sense. But as Miss Stretchberry introduces the class to new poems, Jack begins to see how simple ideas jotted down on a piece of paper can become something beautiful.
Less than a week left in my book a day challenge. In a way, I can’t believe it. Time really does fly when you’re having fun, and, with so many adventures and stories piling up around me, it feels a bit surreal that I’ve accomplished so much reading in so little time!
This week I’ve added:
20. Falcon’s Egg by Luli Gray
21. Your Mother was a Neanderthal by Jon Scieszka
22. The Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling
23. The Classy Crooks Club by Alison Cherry
24. Dear America: A Light in the Storm by Karen Hesse
25. Clementine and the Family Meeting by Sara Pennypacker
26. The Care and Feeding of a Pet Black Hole by Michelle Cuevas
27. Love That Dog by Sharon Creech
Question of the Day: Who are your favorite hidden gem/under-appreciated authors?
Granny Torrelli is always making good food, giving good advice, and telling good stories about her childhood in Italy. So when Rosie gets into a fight with her best friend, Bailey, she knows Granny Torrelli will make things better one way or another.
My granny Torrelli says when you are angry with someone, so angry you are thinking hateful things, so angry maybe you want to punch them, then you should think of the good things about them, and the nice things they’ve said, and why you liked them in the first place.

My personal challenge to read a book a day in May has been slightly redefined this week to mean ‘starting a new book every day’, partly due to picking a slightly longer book (gotta read my library books before they’re due back!), and partly because I can’t help but read more than one book at once. Oh well.
Since last week I’ve added:
7. The Cat Who Went to Heaven by Elizabeth Coatsworth
8. Granny Torrelli Makes Soup by Sharon Creech
9. Baker’s Magic by Diane Zahler
10. The Great Cake Mystery by Alexander McCall Smith
11. Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things by Lenore Look
12. Dessert First by Hallie Durand
13. The Wish by Gail Carson Levine
Question of the Day: What’s the first chapter book series you remember loving as a kid?
Leo is a daydreamer who gets lost in his big, loud family. His big chance to be noticed at the school play is dashed when Mr. Beeber gives Leo an unexpected role. But by delving deeper into his new part, Leo begins to understand his family a little better… and happens across an old family secret.
It is not a good idea to call yourself a sardine in a family like Leo’s, who will not let you forget it.
