There’s nothing like reading a book that can transport you worlds away. Those vivid descriptions that have you shivering on an icey mountaintop, or sweltering in a boat along a lazy river are what make a memorable story so worth reading, and oftentimes re-reading. Book cover appreciation post! This book came home with me from the library thanks to the gorgeous artwork. They say not to judge a book by its cover, but I’m often guilty of only trying books if the cover seems interesting. Yes, me and GoodReads get along just fine!
Sometimes reading on the go requires the extra-hefty backpack, but it’s nice when your daily load coordinates. Not only are this week’s reads the same color, but they’re both written by authors from my childhood… and they are both women with three names (Gail Carson Levine and Diana Wynne Jones). Freaky, no?
Thanks to blogging, now when I read, I always have a notebook nearby to collect key quotes. My favorite part of writing things out by hand has got to be that I get to keep my favorite parts of library books and loaners even when they have to go back home!
Falling in love with The Peculiar by Stefan Bachmann right from page one. The detail in the book design reflects the beautiful descriptions of this grim, steampunk setting perfectly.
Filling a notebook with beautiful quotes from A Snicker of Magic by Natalie Lloyd! My word-loving friend recommended this story, and I’m just soaking in the rich setting and soulful ambiance.
I don’t claim to be a super sleuth, but occasionally a puzzle-related game, activity, or story will catch my eye. The head-banging reminds me why I only do this occasionally, but there’s something satisfying about actually solving one or two without needing a hint.
Adulthood Is a Myth by Sarah Andersen is one of the best gifts I ever received. My family knows I eat up her online comics, so they pre-ordered this lovely, fuzzy book for me when they found out about it (I didn’t even have to hint… much).
A day at the library usually means the following one will likely be spent reading. Guess who was in the ‘H’ section today?
I picked up a few books on my Kindle for reading on the go! This series seems appropriate for travel, too. The Byways Books are about a trio of brothers who are on a race.
