To keep my annual reading goals low pressure and focused on fun, I’ve adopted a scaling system to track my progress. I set my Goodread’s Reading Challenge to 10 books at the start of the year, and when that’s accomplished, increase the goal by an additional 10.
Upon reaching each new milestone, I’ll mark the occasion with a fresh list of books I’m looking forward to reading soon.

Ms. Bixby’s Last Day by John David Anderson
After reading and loving Posted, I’ve been eager to read John David Anderson’s most notable title! It’s always fun to work through a new favorite author’s backlist.
The Hatmakers by Tamzin Merchant
A classic example of picking a book by its cover! I love anything with quirky buildings on the cover, and the concept of a magical hat shop has my hopes flying high that this will be just the right blend of quirky and fun.

The Stars of Summer by Tara Dairman
I enjoyed All Four Stars earlier this year and feel like another foody adventure would be just the thing as we shake off the last heatwaves of summer weather.
Fork-Tongue Charmers by Paul Durham
Now that I’ve cleared a couple of the series I’ve been working through from my TBR I’m curious to get back to The Luck Uglies. Adventures are always best once there’s a little chill back in the air, so I’m hoping for autumnal vibes sooner than later!

The Emerald Gate by Mark Sigel, Alexis Siegel, Xanthe Bouma, Matt Rockefeller, and Boya Sun
I would be so excited to finish off the 5Worlds series by the end of summer! I began reading these for Book a Day May, so it would feel like a fitting end to the season.
Magic Marks the Spot by Caroline Carlson
The Nearly Honorable League of Pirates has come highly recommended to me a few times now, and I’m finally ready for a new swashbuckling series. I love a good piratey adventure!

Frances and the Monster by Refe Tuma
There’s been nothing but praise for this new release, which looks like a delightful blend of all my favorite things! Monsters? Suspense? Steampunk? Snarky robots? Sign me up.
Well Witched by Frances Hardinge
Spooky Season is creeping closer and the premise for this book really grabs me. Three kids uniquely cursed by a Wishing Well Witch? Yes, please.

Cold-Blooded Myrtle by Elizabeth C. Bunce
Look at me go! Catching up with what’s published to-date. The Myrtle Hardcastle Mystery series is THAT good.
Tentacle & Wing by Sarah Porter
I’m not the biggest sci-fi reader, but this looks like a fun twist on DNA experimentation and possibly emerging super powers? But, let’s be honest, I picked this up for the stunner of a front cover.
